The online editorial hub for Environmental Defense Fund
2023
My responsibilities for this project were to uncover what the EDF editorial team was looking for when it came the look and feel of their new site. I led several design workshops with their team, designed all desktop and mobile page designs, designed a component library, prototyped hover states and page load animations, and collaborated with our development team to hand off a packaged design system.
Vital Signs is a brand new sub-brand of Environmental Defense Fund. Because Vital Signs is related to EDF, they wanted to have some kind of tribute to their main brand, all the while standing alone.
"Think of Vital Signs as EDF's cool cousin" —Tasha
EDF's yellow-green, paired with touches of black gradients, and vibrant photography was a hit with the team and the idea was to push that as far as we could until the clients asked us to pull it back, they never did.
Environmental Defense Fund has an amazing library of high quality photos. We want to show those off how ever we can, so we encorperated photography into the design voice.
Staying consistent with EDF's typefaces, we continued to use Anton and Libre Franklin. Anton is used for large statement headers because it is eye-catching and uniquely EDF.
In order to keep a cohesive, flexible, and inclusive website design, we created a component library for our client's editing team within Drupal. This ensures that the design will work together, no matter the order.
